UGT is convention initially established in #mipslinux on irc.openprojects.net (now irc.freenode.net) but slowly taking over the world. It states that it is always morning when person comes into a channel, and it is always late night when person leaves. Local time of any member of channel is irrelevant. Resistance is futile.

Python code is clean (like a sterilized room). Ruby code is beautiful (like an enchanted forest).

This is where your blog can come in. If you write about interesting topics that are related to your application and the problems it solves, you are bound to catch some of those kinds of searchers. They will be coming in through the “back door” of your website, but they are on your website nevertheless, and from there they might become customer if you make it clear (say, on the sidebar) that you are selling the solution to their problem.

CS grads are bad at churning out regular business code, not because they’re all bad coders, but because it’ll bore them to tears eventually. If they are real CS guys, they’ll be happier in an R&D department than a product department.

And for regular coders it’s vice versa, they’re going to be unhappy in an environment where they spend more time proving something they know is a pile of crap doesn’t work than building things that work, so they’d hate R&D.

Then you get guys like me that are stuck somewhere in the middle, we’re just screwed no matter what.

I’m quite confident that can be fixed. For example, we could lock Rich Hickey in a basement and put him on a tofu-and-lettuce diet

You must build your app for 64-bit because if even one binary image running is 32-bit, then the system has to load the entire 32-bit and 64-bit framework stacks. AppKit, Foundation, Quartz—everything down to libc.
The only way the platform can successfully finish the transition to 64-bit is for everyone to distribute a 64-bit binary.

I used to spend so much time screwing around with my Linux box, tweaking it so everything works 100% to my tastes. Then I switched to Mac (and Ubuntu for my remaining Linux box) and things just work and I don’t have to care anymore. It’s great.
